The "Travellin' Animal Rescue Music Show "came into being in early 2019 during a period where I was recovering from major surgery. The two little doggies above were an extraordinary aid to my mental and physical recovery. It was time to do a payback to these wonderful healing-aids.
There are thousands of stories like mine in Australia, and my close friend Victoria, a very talented graphic and fine artist, and I, will be setting up a blog on this site where you can tell us your story about your rescue animals, be they dogs, cats, guinea-pigs, horses, echidnas or whatever.
I have been composing and playing music live for 35 years now, and so I decided it was time to "go on the road" again with my pups, to raise money for all the amazing people and organisations who save and look after animals in need....and there are many, including Animals Australia, the RSPCA, Pet Rescue, Wires and so forth. Bless 'em....and all the wonderful vets out there...Thank-you.
I heard someone say recently that "every dog needs a home and every home needs a dog"...well this can of course be said also for cats, birds and a dozen other domestic animals in need, and now especially after the dreadful summer of fires in 2019-2020 where so many beautiful animals perished.
So..... let me quickly explain here how the show works....
I have a 'live' repertoire of over 170 songs mostly by well-known singer-songwriters (Elton John, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Don McLean, Sting ,and dozens of others), and bands from the 60's, 70's and 80's. The songs cover most genres of popular music.
As I am singing and playing solo (piano and guitar), some songs written by rock and pop bands are a tad difficult to play by myself, but there are many in there with my own versions of the songs by bands like Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles etc. Also included are some "classics" from the 40's and 50's by singers such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Doris Day and others. And how can you do a show like this in Australia without a few Slim Dusty songs?...you can't.
The show is performed under an awning outside my Show Van. There will be a list of the songs on a table outside the van ( a white Sprinter campervan with animal pics and animal-rescue organisation logos...you can't miss it), and Lily and Benji will be there beside me in their playpen...so please say hello.
Just pick a song you would like me to play from the list, write down the song title and your name on the pad provided, and then please donate a gold coin..or paper note if you are feeling particularly generous..... into the bucket beside it. It's as simple as that.
The show lasts an hour and a half. I can only play around 30 songs in that time, so please get in early!
All moneys collected will be equally divided among the animal welfare organisations who have given me permission to be an official donations collector.
I hope to see you soon at one of the shows. There will be a list coming soon of forthcoming shows with the towns where I will be performing on a sub-page above...
